The VIAC´s 50th Anniversary year may have come to an end, but the wonderful memories will stay with us for a long time.
In the article “The Vienna International Arbitral Centre Celebrates its 50th Anniversary – A Tradition of Progress”, published in the Romanian Arbitration Journal (Issue No. 4/2025), VIAC Vice President Patrizia Netal, VIAC Secretary General Niamh Leinwather, and VIAC CAN Coordinator Vladyslava Donchyk, provide an overview of the many initiatives and celebrations that marked this special year.
The article highlights key moments from VIAC’s anniversary calendar, including two flagship events: the Third Edition of the VIAC CAN Congress, dedicated to exploring the future of arbitration in Central and Eastern Europe, and the closing conference “VIAC at 50: The Legacy and Future of Dispute Resolution in the Heart of Europe.” It also reflects on important institutional developments, such as the 2025 amendments to the VIAC Rules of (Investment) Arbitration and Mediation 2021, the publication of the new VIAC Handbook, and the launch of the VIAC Best Practice Series. Looking ahead, the article concludes with a forward-looking perspective on VIAC’s continued commitment to innovation, excellence, and the trust placed in the institution by its users.
A special thanks goes to the Editor in Chief, Cristina Alexe, for the kind invitation and the flawless coordination of the project.
