Our Mission
Problems are often unavoidable in economic relationships. Unfortunately, sometimes contract partners can no longer solve their problems on their own. In commercial disputes between contracting parties from different countries, state courts are not always the best solution because a judgement made in one country cannot be enforced abroad. This will be the case in particular if there is no agreement enabling recognition in other countries. In contrast to state court judgements, arbitration awards are enforceable practically worldwide.
The Austrian Federal Economic Chamber has responded to this need and has provided companies from Austria and abroad with one of the world’s most recognised international arbitration institutions since 1975: the VIAC (Vienna International Arbitral Centre).

Vienna Rules
A new version of the VIAC Arbitration and Mediation Rules came into force on 1 January 2025. They are applicable to all proceedings initiated or to be initiated after 31 December 2024.

VIAC offers arbitration practitioners the possibility to create a profile and present themselves. The arbitrator’s profiles are non-binding and do not constitute the institution’s recommendation.

The cost calculator is an aid for parties and others interested to obtain an initial overview of the expected procedural costs for VIAC proceedings.

The VIAC Portal is an online case management platform to improve communication and efficiency in proceedings, create transparency and ensure data protection.
Model Clauses
If parties wish to submit their dispute to arbitration under the Vienna Rules, they can conclude a model clause based on the VIAC Model Clauses.
