He specializes in advising clients involved in cross-border investment and M&amp;A-related disputes as well as investor-state disputes.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"font_8 wixui-rich-text__text\"><span class=\"color_19 wixui-rich-text__text\">Mr. Byun\u2019s recent works include representing multinational private equity funds in post-M&amp;A disputes, representing a foreign investor in an investment treaty arbitration filed against the Republic of Korea, representing a major pharmaceutical company in a cross-border joint venture dispute, and representing a major telecommunications company in a dispute relating to a European public infrastructure project.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"font_8 wixui-rich-text__text\"><span class=\"color_19 wixui-rich-text__text\">As a member of the Merger &amp; Acquisitions Practice, Mr. Byun also has extensive experience in a wide range of cross-border transactions, including share and asset purchases and joint ventures, and has handled many high-profile transactions, advising international businesses and private equity funds in acquiring major Korean companies. He is also known for his expertise in counseling top Korean conglomerates on outbound transactions.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"font_8 wixui-rich-text__text\"><span class=\"color_19 wixui-rich-text__text\">Prior to joining Kim &amp; Chang in 2004, Mr. Byun was an associate in the corporate department of Wachtell, Lipton, Rosen &amp; Katz, New York.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"font_8 wixui-rich-text__text\"><span class=\"color_19 wixui-rich-text__text\">Mr. Byun received his J.D. from Columbia University\u2019s School of Law in 2001, and his B.A. from Duke University in 1997.<\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>&#8220;Regarding my interest in VIAC, I have recently worked on arbitration matters with Austrian clients and Austrian co-counsel involving Korean companies, and I believe that Vienna has the potential to replace Singapore and Hong Kong as the preferred neutral arbitration destination for Korean users.
